Common Skin Conditions in Runners

Several skin disorders might affect your feet and a lot of general skin complaints which affect the whole body can be even worse in the feet due to the use of shoes and especially the strains which runners place on the foot.

Blisters

Blisters are common on the feet of runners. These are generally resulting from superficial rubbing from the athletic shoes on particular locations which results in your skin layers being split up. This will usually be on the toes or maybe the back of the calcaneus. Almost all runners are extremely experienced with blisters. The best way to take care of blisters is to not necessarily get them to begin with. Ensure that the athletic shoes fit properly and use a lubricant upon areas of excessive friction. There are various friction reducing tapes or pads that athletes can use to avoid blisters if they happen frequently. If a blister should occur, then make sure it is covered and cushioned to allow it to heal.

Corns and Callus

Corns and calluses originate from to much pressure on a spot. This usually is a result of the shoes not fitted appropriately or there's some toe or foot deformity triggering higher force like a hammer toe or hallux valgus. Corns and calluses are relatively simple to get rid of. A competent podiatric doctor can simply remove them with good scalpel technique. What is not too easy will be to prevent corns returning. Corns do not have roots that they grow back from that the podiatric physician just didn't eliminate. It's actually a frequent misconception that corns have roots. Foot corns and calluses constantly come back if the cause is not taken away and that cause will be the increased pressure on the state. This force may just be reduced by, for example, surgical treatment to correct a hammer toe or hallux valgus. Foot supports should help ease stress on the underside of the foot if there are calluses present.
